In the UK, all dealers supplying precious metal jewellery are required to display a Hallmarking Act 1973 notice as approved by the British Hallmarking Council.

Currently, all Silver items over the weight of 7.78g, and any gold items over the weight of 1g must be hallmarked by law. My makers mark is registered at London Assay office and all pieces requiring a hallmark are sent there for verification. Smaller pieces which weigh below the threshold are not hallmarked.
