HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELLERY

Each piece of Rose Tinted Jewellery is crafted from precious metals, gemstones and pearls.  Each piece has been checked carefully to ensure that it will withstand reasonable wear and tear. Please note that all handmade jewellery pieces are delicate and should be handled with care.

Wearing the new jewellery:

Sterling silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time. Tarnishing is a natural process. It is perfectly normal for sterling silver to darken and tarnish.

To reduce tarnish we recommend the following:

  • Removing your jewellery when you shower, bathe, or swim. Chlorinated water in particular can accelerate the tarnishing of sterling silver.

  • Avoid spraying any solvents, such as perfume, hairspray, deodorant etc. onto your jewellery pieces. Avoid wearing your jewellery when using bleach and other harsh household cleaners

  • Keep away from extreme temperatures, humidity and sunlight. It is important to keep pieces out of flowing air and humidity when not being worn.

  • When wearing your Jewellery please take steps to ensure that it doesn’t rub against other metals or harsh surfaces as they will scratch and wear your pieces.

Storing your jewellery:

In order to protect your Jewellery from getting scratched and tangled, place each piece individually in their own box. It is advised you store your jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place.

Cleaning your Jewellery:

Silver Jewellery:

The most effective way to clean your jewellery is to use a soft, lint free cloth to keep the metal looking shiny and clean. Warm soapy water and a very soft toothbrush can be used if your pieces are particularly unclean. A jewellery cloth impregnated with silver cleaner could then be used to help remove any tarnish. It can also be used as a preventative measure to delay any tarnishing in the future.

Please take care when cleaning silver with a patina finish (dark blackening of the surface) clean those pieces gently using warm soapy water and polishing cloth and pat dry immediately.

Gemstones:

If your jewellery contains gemstones please take a little extra care when cleaning, particularly with softer stones such as pearls, opals, lapis lazuli and turquoise. Gemstones can be easily cleaned with a warm soapy water mix or an untreated cloth. Please do not use any chemical cleaning solutions on natural gemstones.

As pearls are very porous they can be discoloured by soap, perfume and make-up,  so take extra care with them. Pearls are also soft and can be scratched by contact with sharp objects or other gemstones, so please store your Pearls in the box they come in with the clasp fastened. Pearls love being exposed to the oils in your skin, therefore please do wear them as frequently as possibly. They can dehydrate if left unworn for a long time.
